The Junior Men and Women class is newly-returned to the USA BMX national series, with the 2019 season. Junior is the not-quite-elite,-but-almost class for 17 and 18 year olds, which is intended to give the riders an onramp to racing against the top guns in the Elite class.
The class was active when Olympic Qualifying for the London Olympics started up in 2009, but ABA phased it out, not long after, choosing to combine it with Elite. Over the past few years, the United States’ absence of Junior racing left a hole in our program when it came to International racing.
In fact, Junior rankings could even figure in to how many Olympic slots a nation is allocated, if there is an absolute tie in the Elite rankings.
On this, our very-first BMX News Announcers Tower Video Podcast, we’re joined by two of the newest Junior men on the scene–Gavin Freewalt, and Spencer Cole.
We were excited to get well-put, candid responses from the guys on a variety of topics (listen/view above).
BMX News will look forward to seeing these two, and all the Junior and Elite classes at this weekend’s 2019 USA BMX Midwest Nationals in Rockford, IL.
