Podcast: Rennen “Project 187″ Is “IT”

November 7, 2011 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors · Comments Off

The Inertia Training System by Rennen Design Group

In a self-admitted tip of the visor to Redline for their masterful job promoting their “Project 79″ carbon frame this spring, George Costa whipped some frenzy this fall with another numbered notion.

Project 187 starred in a YouTube video, shot in Chula Vista during the Supercross. That video raised viewers’ ire by not actually revealing what it was…and (most importantly) got them talking. Two of the most vocal viewers from Vintage even got a plug on the follow-up video that was posted on YouTube this past Friday.

With that video, Project 187 was introduced to the world as the Rennen Inertia Training System (the “IT Wheel” as we’ll be calling it from here on in).

From the dimly-lit inner sanctum of the Rennen manufactory, George gave his reveal…but we wanted a little more in the way of details, and he agreed to join us for a Podcast this weekend. Looking at the Announcers Tower episode list, it so happens that it was almost one year to the day that George was on the show to introduce last year’s major Rennen innovation, Decimal Gearing.

During the 28-Minute show, GC also spits some scoop on the status of the Rennen team for 2012. That is not to be missed, so be sure to listen all the way.

Justin Travis Talks Summer Camp at Ohio Dreams

May 27, 2011 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors · Comments Off

BMXNEWS.COM interviews Justin Travis on Ohio Dreams Summer Camp

With Summer 2011 about to jump off, we decided to bring you inside Ohio Dreams Action Sports Camp in Ohio. Like all summer camps, it has woods, trails, lots of activities, the chance to meet new friends and hang out with longtime pals.

Add in the fact that it is a BMX Racing specific summer camp, and you’ll be packing your 10 pairs of socks, eight pairs of underwear and two toothbrushes before the end of the show.

Ohio Dreams Program Director Justin Travis takes us into a typical day in the life of an Ohio Dreams BMX Racing camper (they also have camp for Skateboarding, Inline Skate, Scooter, Ski & Snowboard and BMX Freestyle).

We also ask Justin to talk about the differences between a clinic you might find at a local track, and a sleepover camp like Ohio Dreams…and how his staffers are chosen and trained to keep your kid a (we can’t resist…) happy camper.

Definitely worth a listen, whether or not you are considering a summer stretch for your 7-17 year old.

The intro and outro music is from the classic 1963 campy song about camp; “Hello Muddah Hello Faddah” by Allan Sherman, via YouTube.

Outside Sponsors Take Another Step In

July 23, 2010 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors · Comments Off

More and more savvy sponsors from outside the industry are getting hip to the fact that there is a large, untapped and very receptive market in BMX Racing. BMX Racers buy tons of plane tickets. We sleep in hotels. A lot. And anyone who wants to be a top performer needs to be all about maintaining high nutritional standards. The latest ace in the deck is Optimum Nutrition’s sponsorship of AA Pro Tyler Faoro.

ON, as it’s called, was founded in 1986 by brothers Tony and Michael Costello. If you’ve spent any time in a GNC, or a gym that carries supplements, their products will already be familiar to you when you check them out on the Website. We’ll be anxious to hear from Tyler on how he is incorporating ON’s various products into his BMX training program.

Tyler is in some pretty lofty company as an ON sponsored athlete. With 52 names listed on the “Athletes” page of optimumnutrition.com, they have some of the most muscled-up talent you’ve ever set eyes on (and there’s beauty with the brawn–that Becky Fox…whoa!). We’re sure Tyler’s tanned-and-oiled-up beauty shot will join the gallery soon :P

In a release, Bob Corbett, ON’s Athlete Manager said, of their new relationship with Tyler:

“Optimum Nutrition is proud to sponsor such a well-respected competitor as Tyler Faoro, and we consider him to be a fantastic addition to our team of athletes. Our premium line of protein, recovery and energy products is also a great fit for the intensely competitive world of BMX racing, and fans of the sport can expect the ON Team to be a very visible presence at major events. We recognize BMX athletes have unique nutritional needs to fuel their performance and we look forward to helping Tyler and the BMX community compete at their best.”

A big BMXNEWS congratulations to both Tyler and Optimum Nutrition, and we look forward to hearing more from you guys!
