Anarchy is in the USA

January 2, 2012 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors · Comments Off

J&R Bicycles Product Spotlight - Anarchy BMX

Every time we see, hear or read about Bill Ryan’s new Anarchy BMX brand, the opening chords of the 1970s punk rock staple “Anarchy in the UK” by the Sex Pistols are loud in our head (which is a good thing, by the way). It’s cool to see the pieces of this multiyear puzzle coming together for Smilin’ Bill and his posse. Frames have landed, and shipped off to retailers in the USA, just in time for the new season.

We got our first glimpse of the Riot frame at Interbike, and reported a few tidbits about it at on September 21. Here’s what we said:

The way Bill tells it, there will be an Anarchy team, with two pros repping the line. Five sizes will come to market (Expert XL, Pro, Pro XL, Pro XXL and Pro Cruiser), in three colors (“natural,” as shown, gloss black and acid green). The Anarchy avails itself of all the in-house tech know the Supercross BMX shop is known for, and that goes for materials too–with the familiar Easton Taper-wall downtube as the SX Envy, as well as the same head tube and seat mast. Of course, the Anarchy will be its own man, with an all-its-own rear triangle, top tube and optimized geometry. Streeting soon at $399.

All of the above is how the product came to market, with the names of the two pros left as the only fill-in-the-blanks pieces of the puzzle. Watch for that today on News.

J&R has the frames in stock now, and is reporting strong interest–pretty impressive, considering that the details are just hitting the streets.

There is supreme style points to being the first guy in the chutes with the cool new brand under him. J&R is paving the way for BMX News readers to startup a Riot before the first national gate drops…

Chase BMX Releases Frame Geometry Chart

December 19, 2011 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors · Comments Off

Chase BMX Frame Geometry

We’ve seen Connor Fields tearin it up on the track since his return from knee surgery mid-season…aboard the Chase frame from BMX Racing Group. Just today, Christophe and Pete released the frame sizing chart that gives us all the 4-1-1 on how the metal comes together. Rather than have you hunt it down, we figured we’d make it easy on ya, and post it here.

Envy – The Golden Crank Winner

December 5, 2011 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors · Comments Off

Supercross Evvy v2 - 2011 Golden Crank Winner

Always a bridesmaid, never a bride the past dozen years, when it came to the prestigious ABA Golden Crank Award, Bill Ryan and Supercross BMX have had a great year in 2011. Lots of high-profile wins on the team side, and LOTS of Envy frames seen on tracks and bike racks across the fruited plain.

For those who ride them, they’re a dream machine–with the magical mix of design dazzle and performance sizzle that folks from 4-64 are looking for. Add to that a legion of fans who admire the Envy from afar, waiting for the right time to make the angels (and the cash register) sing.

All this adulation manifested itself with an outpouring of Golden Crank ballots in favor of the Envy–enough, in fact, to put Smilin’ Bill on the Stage with BA on Saturday night of the Grands, getting the very trophy you see above.

News extends our congratulations to the Supercross BMX crew for taking the Envy line to the front in such a short time. Which is why we’re making the v2 our Product Spotlight of the week.

The Envy comes in 14 sizes, from Mini to Pro XL 24, and has five stock colors (Gloss White, Gloss Black, Blurple, Silvergrayblue and Mirror Polish, which is our absolute fave, if you’ll pardon the editorialization…but hey’ afterall, this is editorial).

Here’s what Bill, himself, had to say from his desk, deep in the Supercross BMX development lab:

The 2012 ENVY is Stiffer, Lighter, Faster.

The new, smaller, dropouts are lighter and stiffer.

The Ovalized Seat Stay Bridge offers a stiffer rear triangle

The Ovalized Seatmast at the BB shell, offers a stiffer BB area

And the re-routed cable guides offer a smoother and more responsive braking.

Add in the new 2012 Graphics and you have a high performance race ready chassis that fits your style. Optional Graphic Kits in Red, Cyan Blue, Gold, Silver and Bubba Harris Signature Neon Green really allow you to customize your ENVY to fit your style.

Not changed for the 2012 Supercross ENVY’s are the World Championship winning Race Proven Geometry, and The Custom Butted Shaped and Butted, Easton ULR Ultra Lite Race Double Heat Treated 7005 Tubeset. You will not find a lighter or more performance- orientated production racing frame.

J&R has jumped in with a juicy 10% discount to help put one under your tree this holiday season. Use Discount Code SXBMXNEWS at checkout on jrbicycles.com.

YESS – The Bottom Line On Bottom Brackets

November 24, 2011 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors · Comments Off

Yess BMX has been on the BMX News radar for a while now…and a long, cozy visit at the Interbike show a couple months ago put us in “very familiar” territory on their frame, expert fork, and future plans. As we traded “SeeYa at the Grands” email with honcho Renny Husada today, we asked for a deeper dive on a photo we shot at the show.

They had a big poster illustrating three-different bottom bracket forms, “standard,” “improved” and “evolved” (guess which one is the Yess BB design?). If you are as nerdy about the finer-points of frame construction as we are, it’s a pretty cool reveal. The Yess “Evolved” MTO downtube-bottom bracket interface gives a heaping helping of under-shell support to the place your power is put down. As you can see in the photo, The Evolved BB also gives some serious metal-to-metal matchup to the chainstays for “on-rails” tracking in the turns.

They say it way better than we ever could, so download the graphic for some 411 on the YESS “MTO” bottom bracket mojo.

November 14, 2011 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors · Comments Off

2012 FLY F2 Dragon Carbon Helmet

There is plenty more to being a champ than muscling down the first straight, and hoping everyone chases you. You’ve got to use your head before and during your winning laps…well…and after too, so pretty much all the time. With this kind of full-time job description, that cerebral cortex of yours should be a pushover for the newest offering from Fly Racing.

The 2012 F2 Carbon Helmet is available in four colorways, but the “Graphiques spéciaux” shipping with the Dragon Alliance model is a black & white decision you’ll make in a flash. The F2 Carbon has more letters after its name than Einstein’s math teacher, with DOT, SNELL and ECE certifications to prove it can take a licking and…you know.

Five sizes will keep things snug for your rug and, of course, if you’re Ga-Ga for Goggles, add a pair of the Dragon Nate Adams variety to plus-up that factory look & feel.

Tangent Says: “Reach for the Bars”

November 7, 2011 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors · Comments Off

Tangent Pro Stem Available at J&R Bicycles

Lots of times, your stem is the last thing you see before you “watch the gate.” And when you’re ready to engage in all-out berm warfare, it’s nice to know its YOU that’s going to slip boldly out of the gate, and not your bars. The Tangent Pro stem is the kind of hardware you want chomping on those horns when the gate drops and the BS stops.

The pro stem is proven by the Tangent Cartel and main makers from Cape Cod to Chula V. Five sizes give you plenty of placement possibilities, and Black, Blue, Gold and Red make it tight with any way you have your scoot dressed up.

Of course, we should not sign off without saying that it’s CNC-machined right here in the Nifty-Fifty, and is so cool, it practically has its own Facebook Fan page.

It’s Grands season…so get outta the gate on a Tangent first round. You could wait to grab one at J&R on Vendor Row…but we’re going to sweeten the “act now” pot with a 15% off discount code (see below).

Supercross BMX “Bubba” Saddle

October 31, 2011 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors · Comments Off

Bubba Harris Saddle By Supercross BMX at jrbicycles.com

When Bad Bubba Harris saddles up for battle, this is the saddle he’s using. The Bubba Harris signature saddle, by Supercross BMX is nine ounces of stability when your warming up, cooling down, or haulin the mail into the first turn, and need some leg leverage.

Smilin Bill Ryan, BMX mad scientist, and creator of the trickest BMX brick-a-brack in the known universe says this of the Bubba saddle:

When we first brought Bubba on to the Factory Team over a year ago, we wanted to offer some signature parts. The first item we did was the Saddle– it was a nice experiment to get Bubba’s design ideas out to the public quickly.

The “Pin-it” Graphic style is all Bubba’s idea, and he has wanted to use Neon Green as a signature colorway for years.

Just in: Bubba Harris Signature ENVY decal kits that also add the Neon Green into the graphics on your Envy, to match up with his Signature Saddle and the Lizard Skins Signature Grips.

More Bubba Harris Signature Products are in the works to complete the groupo, along with new Signature Line Products, from a few other key Supercross Pros such as Dani George, Nate Padilla and Jeremy Rommel.

The saddle also sports kevlar corners for shred-protection, and chromoly rails for long-haul haulin.

Available now at J&R for $39.95…but wait!

Marc Willers: Secret Agent of the Speed State?

July 27, 2011 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors · Comments Off

“This is the thing that’s going to change the game and put it over the top,” says Marc Willers in a minute-and-a-half video by Trent Jones that hit the net today. Tough to tell what “this thing” is, but there are some flashes of Carbon Fiber in the beginning, so that may be a clue as to what Marc and Speed Bicycles have under the curtain. Or are they just poking Redline with a stick, in the latest volley in their years-long propaganda wars?

Willers is a heavy favourite of Las Vegas odds makers, and “Gear Chart Dads” the world-over, to be high-atop the UCI BMX Elite Men’s World Title this weekend in Copenhagen, so a win there could give any announcement (even if it IS simply “Gotcha!”), a nice PR pump.

Some photos of Marc’s worlds whip surfaced on Facebook, and we have been studying them like the CIA studies U2 spy photos for any clues. We have no Earthly idea if this secret project is a new bike part, or maybe Marc got a tattoo on his face, Mike Tyson style (MAYBE just like the painted-on one on the cover of Pull Magazine a few months back???). Whatever the case, it’s a tasty scoot, done up in the Kiwi-Team-Livery.

SE and Oakley Fit Like A Glove

May 11, 2011 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors · Comments Off

Got an email from the Wildman, Todd Lyons last night telling tale of the official release of the co-branded SE/Oakley BMX Race gloves. One of our favorite uniforms from the early days of BMX was the brown & blue SE “Factory Boys” kit.

Here’s what TL is layin down in the official release.

The brand spankin’ new SE / Oakley Factory Pilot gloves are shipping to dealers in the U.S. this week! SE & Oakley have joined forces to create some of the sickest gloves ever. These “team fit” gloves feature the classic SE Racing & Oakley Factory Pilot logos, but the cool factor doesn’t stop there. The gloves have short & tight cuffs for greater wrist articulation, perforated thumb knuckle pads, out-turned seams on the fingers, and “B1-B” finger grippers for excellent adhesion.

The SE / Oakley Factory Pilot gloves are available in the U.S. now at select SE retailers. If you have any trouble locating the gloves at your local retailer, find them at www.BUYSESTUFF.com

MSRP: $40

It’s All A Blur

July 16, 2010 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors · Comments Off

The new Blur Frame by Supercross BMX

Back on March 16, BMXNEWS reported a scoop on the new Supercross frame which was just moving from designer’s table to actual metal. Today, we received the first photo of the final product, ready to ship. The first run of the new Supercross Blur frame sold out before the proverbial paint was dry, but the next shipment (the one containing your frame) is about 30 days out.

Some curious specification geeks asked: “What’s the difference between the blur, and it’s upmarket cousin, the Envy?” Bill Ryan brings us the following at-a-glance comparison. First the Blur specs:

Full 6061 T-6 Seamless Tubeset
Full Ovalized Top Tube
Bi-Ovalized Down Tube
Double T-4/T-6 Heat Treating
Full CNC’d Campy Integrated Headtube
Full CNC’d Euro BB shell
3-D CNC’d Dropouts

Weight is 3lbs 5 ounces for a Pro XL in Matte Black

Painted Colors are – Matte Black, Pearl White, Racing Red, Gun Metal Grey, Matte Blue and Pearl Pink.

MSRP for Painted models is $279.95

And now for the Envy specs:
Custom-Butted and Shaped Easton ULR Ultra Lite Racing 7005 Tubeset
Custom-Shaped Downtube
Flipped Tear Drop Top Tube
Tapered Rear Stays
Double T-4/T-6 Heat Treating
Full CNC’d Campy Integrated Headtube
Full CNC’d Euro BB shell
3-D CNC’d Dropouts with back-side CNC releavement

Weight is 2lbs 13 ounces for a Pro XL in Polish or Custom Anodized colors

Stock Colors are: Gloss Black, Matte Black, Pearl White, New Limited Edition Purple, Mirror Polish and endless custom anodized variations.

MSRP for Painted models is $479.95

So, eight ounces heavier in the weight, $200 lighter on the price. We’re looking forward to seeing the first Blurs on the track…oh wait, we may not even see them—they’ll be a blur.
