BMX Racing and announcing legend Lenny Batycki joins Mike Carruth on this week’s “Announcers Tower” to talk about his recent acquisition of the only SE STR-1 prototype (the forerunner to the Quadangle) known to survive. The STR-1, of which only 10 were ever made in the summer of 1978, has been among the most sought-after BMX collector’s items in the world. Lenny has decided to sell the frame on eBay in a special three-day auction. We get the “back story” from Lenny on how he came to own the frame, and he answers some VintageBMX.com member questions.

Today, SE Racing founder Scot Breithaupt told BMXNEWS that 10 STR-1 prototypes were made between June and September 1978. He posted the following on VintageBMX.com
Yuppers.. it’s the real deal… no doubt.. but Seth should have given it back to me since he crashed my Mercedes and brought it back on a hook! Sucker OWES me!! There were 10 total.. all a combo of 4130 and 1010 Hi-Ten steel (BB shells and head tubes). I know where a few are, but those owners want to remain anonymous… PERIOD.
Good luck to the winning bidder.. you will have a historic piece of BMX history… I’m flattered and honored by all the interest…
