2017 Rift/Tangent Teams

Rich Pelton and TJ Johnson are stepping-up their team efforts for 2017. Through the new Rockstar/Rift Factory Team, we welcome Rockstar Energy back to BMX Racing (they never really left, supporting Brooke Crain and David Herman as individual athletes—but on the team support side, we have not seen them in a few years).

The new industry practice for energy drink brands is that athletes promoting energy drinks must be turning 15 in the calendar year in which they are promoting the brand.

Thus, they have two squads for 2017: Rockstar/Rift Factory Team and the Rift/Tangent Factory Team. Here are the rosters:

Rockstar/Rift Factory Team
Rihards Veide – Elite Men
Hunter Pelham – Elite Men
Gustavo Alcojor – Elite Men
Alejandre Alcojor – Elite Men
Daiki Ikeda – A-Pro
Marquise Montgomery – A-Pro
Walker Finch – A-Pro
Jacob Abbe – A-Pro
Ryan Puckett – 17-18X
Bryant White – 17-18X
Nick Adams – 15X

Rift/Tangent Factory Team
Chris Felker – 8X
Tyler Grigsby – 11X
Deserea Romero – 11G
Breanna Winter – 12G
Nate Romero – 12X
Ryan Corriea – 13X
Bryce Tryon – 16X
Hector Gomez – 17-24X

On the new team structure, TJ told News:
The Rockstar deal has been a deal a longtime in the works; it has allowed us to be even more professional and bring even more awareness to the sport of BMX. Look for this to be a long and great relationship with one of the greatest sponsors out there. With the help of Rockstar and our other longtime sponsors Fly, Shimano, Alienation, US Spoke, Onyx, Tangent and RiderProShop 2017 is gonna be a good year.

Some of the incoming pros gave us “stoke statements” on their move to the Tangent Cartel.

Hunter Pelham said, via social media:
I’m very thankful to be part of such a great program. Buckle up your seatbelts, here we come 2017!

Marquise Montgomery told News:
I’m extremely excited to have the opportunity to ride for the Rift/Tangent brand come 2017.

It’s not every day you get to ride for a brand/team you’ve grown up wishing you could be part of. Rich and TJ have always been great to me over the years, and I have nothing but the highest respect for the both of them.

I look forward to representing the Brand to the best of my ability.

Walker Finch told News:
I’m so stoked to be starting a relationship with such a rad company and team! Riding for Tangent has always been a goal of mine and I’m still in shock a little bit that it’s happening. Absolutely looking forward to the years to come with these guys!

Congrats to all the riders, new and otherwise, on the new colors for 2017. We look forward to seeing everyone in the new kit, at the season opener (Vegas and Phoenix).
