Answer Rennen Team Report for 2013 USA BMX Winter Nationals

Submitted by George Costa

Answer/Rennen went into stop four of the 2013 USA BMX National series fresh off a Sunday win in Louisville. The upper-80-degree temps were a much-welcomed feeling as most of the Answer/Rennen squad that attended this race were still shoveling snow back home. The small-but-powerful crew managed to pull down a second-place finish on day one in PHX and, more importantly, a 229-point score.

Unfortunate crashes would not bode well for the team on Sunday, but everyone came out injury-free, and moving on to the next event. The weekend was a positive one for the team and we can’t wait to see everyone next time.

Read below to see how your favorite rider did at the Winter Nationals.

9X Brandon Crain may be our youngest rider, but he is turning out to be a force to be reckoned with taking three of four wins (9X and 9 Cruiser). He is doing this against riders who will age-out of the class come Grands time. Once the older kids move on, there will be no stopping The Birdman.

Justin Knapper of Factory Answer Rennen on
16X Justin Knapper is off to a fantastic start to the season, as he scored yet another win in the biggest rider count class of the weekend, beating 45 other riders on Saturday. On Sunday, Justin unfortunately went down over the first jump– he’s ok and ready for more domination as the season moves on.

17-18X Derik Bergh scored a fifth-place finish in the ultra-competitive 17-18X class on Saturday. On Sunday, after leading laps all day, a crash in the main prevented Derik from getting on the podium. With time and patience (along with non sub-zero temps back home) look for him to rack up wins as the spring and summer approach.

19-27X Niles Austin has been Mr. Consistent, making every main in 19-27X up until Sunday where an unclipping in the second corner was all it took to put his main-making streak to an end. Look for Niles to turn up the intensity as the spring approaches.

41+ Shawn Diprete didn’t have his normal domination weekend but he did finish the weekend off on a good note, winning the last race of the weekend in 41-over expert.

9G Tara Klein had a birthday recently, and she was racing her new class in Phoenix. Despite that, she was able to manage a fourth place finish on Sunday.

BMX News - Austin Loebe of Factory Answer Rennen
A-Pro Austin Loebe made the main on Sunday in a stacked class. He was able to pull off a fourth place finish contributing to the team’s 229-point score on Saturday. Sunday would be a different story as a 1st turn crash in semis would cut his day short.
