Always a fun time, the NBL Hoosier Nationals in Evansville for 2011 were nestled in the middle of seven weeks of rapid-fire summer racing. ABA Rockford, NBL Warsaw, NBL South Park and then Evansville…Next weekend in Grand Rapids for the NBL Regional Championships, then to NBL Waterford, then ABA Minnesota. Sumptin’ gotta give.

Thus, the BMXNEWS team stayed home this weekend to power wash the deck, and prepare for the sprint to the Grands that is right around the corner. Fortunately, Greg Davis was on hand in Indiana, and sent along a 44 photo gallery from the race, for your viewing pleasure (link below).

The race was smallish this year, probably owing to the aforementioned packed racing calendar in the Midwest. The temperature was higher than the moto count, with 94 degree infield temps on Saturday, and 91 motos in staging. Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, the ABA side of USA BMX had a full house in Vegas, with 318 motos on Saturday.

Back to Evansville: It was good to see some farther-than-three-hour-drive riders in the house, including the Snap Team from Rockford, Doran Bradshaw, Jason LaRev, Rob McAllister and RJ Livesay from ATL, Jeff Upshaw and Josh Smith brought 2/3 of the pro class with them, Erik “Midwest Muscle” Meyer and The G-Man, Gavin Freewalt making the US 41 trip from the 847 for Rennen-Intense. The Coletrain, Spencer Cole was all over 9x for DK, and a handful for fast Florida flyers.

The perfects were too plentiful to put into words, but word from the track was that Coletrain (9x), Tyshawn Carr (11x), Justin Richmond(13x and 13-14Cr), Tyler Whitfield (16C), Tyler Wagner (14x) and Alan Struna (17-18) all commanded their classes like Capt. Kirk, himself, with double perfects. Nice job, guys!

In other NBL news, the rumor that had been going around, saying the NBL Grands might be canceled, was completely obliterated this weekend, when USA BMX announced, on Friday, that the UCI Elite race was being moved from Reno to Louisville for the Grands. Going to be a good time in the “other” ‘ville that weekend.

Thanks to Greg Davis for the photos!
