Ban Smoking in City Parks

The trend of smoking bans in public places is widening to the turf and tundra of city parks throught America. Most recently, the city of Meridian, ID instituted a full ban on smoking in its city parks and, according to this article, via Examiner.com, the city of Boise is working on a ban in city parks, which would extend to the BMX Track.

During the 70s and early 80s, it was not uncommon to have the gate operator and the corner marshals at a local track puffin away as the riders were huffin and puffin their way to the finish line. But it’s a new day now, and a sporting event is just not the place for lighting up. “Take a two minute walk in any direction, and you’re fine,” is how News overheard it explained to one parent by a Track Operator last season.
