2011 Redline Cup is Up!

Redline and the ABA announced the dates for the 2011 Redline Cup. This long-standing and eagerly-awaited series is a centerpiece of the ABA’s regional program, and the very picture of how such a program should be run.

BMX News is stoked for the first race in the Eastern region, coming up on Feb 27 at Steel Wheels BMX in Hobart, IN. We’ll be there–will you?

For the 17th straight year, REDLINE BICYCLES has teamed up with the American Bicycle Association to bring a Redline Cup event to local tracks across America. The popular series– formerly known as the “Gold Cup” during the 80′s and 90′s– continues to draw thousands of riders in their quest to win one of three Redline Cup plates awarded in each class.

The ABA has divided the country in to three Regions – East, Central and West, and designates which BMX tracks will be given the honor of holding a Redline Cup race. In all, there will be 68 Redline Cup races in 2011.

A Redline Cup Finals event will be held in each region, the weekend of Sept 9 (Central), October 7 (East) and October 14 (West).

Riders need to race one Redline Cup Qualifier, and Saturday / Sunday at the final in their region to be eligible for series awards. The top three points earners in each class will get a custom Pryme RLC plate. A Redline Cup Championship jacket goes to the top rider.

As the main sponsor and namesake of this race series, Redline provides all 68 tracks with banners, catalogs and other swag for riders – along with a Redline promo package, that will be raffled off at each Redline Cup event. Redline Cup host tracks often work with their local Redline Dealer to help promote BMX Racing, and the Redline brand at the grassroots level.

“Redline is very proud that this BMX tradition carries on, and we are pleased to help support the BMX tracks and their operators, all around the country,” stated Redline marketing director Craig “gOrk” Barrette. “We believe a big part of Redline’s success in being the first bike for any kid who starts racing BMX, is due to our active participation in supporting this nationwide race series.”
