See the USA With the ABA in 2011
Recognize that headline from anywhere? Kinda catchy, eh? Well, it was actually an ABA Bumper Sticker sold at the races in the early 80s (maybe on the 1981 tour). Of course, that bumper sticker was an homage to a Chevrolet Commercial from the 1950s featuring stars of the day like Dinah Shore and Pat Boone.
The 2011 ABA National Schedule gives BMXers a great chance to see all corners of our great country, and the schedule is now ready to download and drool over. In all, 27 National stops on the calendar for the new year (not counting the three Redline Cup Finals). As you can see by the map above (thanks DHennet on Vintage), the ABA has peppered the country quite evenly with races (though even before the PDF ink was dry, Nor-Cal was grumbling–and it had nothing to do with earthquakes…no Roseville race this year).
The ABA Trailer will be visiting some new places (Cape Cod, MA, Nashville, TN), and returning to some old favorites (Las Vegas, which was host to the second largest ABA National ever in 2007, with 378 motos and Imagination Glenn in Portage, IN). The ABA crew will also be printing out boarding passes for a big bird hop over to the “Enchanted Island” of Puerto Rico for the first time (tales similar to the Brady Bunch “Hawaiian Vacation” episodes are inevitable–question is: who gets the tarantula in their bed?).
We’ll be seeing you in all the familiar places…Reno in January, Oldsmar, Phoenix (though the Winternationals have been shifted to the new SX complex at Speedworld BMX…bye, bye, Black Mountain), Chula Vista X 2 (the April installment brings the USAC National Championships to the West Coast, bidding bon voyage to Desoto), and, of course, Rockford for the Midwest Nationals and Annual Vintage BMX show.
Nashville is always a great race, and the first time under the ABA flag should be extra-primo-good. The Disney Cup is back at ORL BMX for the second time, and word is that BA has put in a special weather request to get the same Sunshine State blue sky and moderate temps we had this year.
Download the 2011 ABA BMX National Schedule now, and we’ll see you in Reno on January 14.
