Whitfield and George top Jr. Devo Series
The final USAC/ABA Junior Development series for the 2010 season concluded with the ABA Spring Nationals in Albuquerque. It was a contentious series, with 95 boys and 26 girls earning points. When it was all said and done, and the ABA supercomputer in Gilbert finished chomping all the numbers, Tyler Whitfield of Rockford, IL (above) emerged with the boys points win over Jordan Miranda—by a razor-thin margin of two points.
The ladies had an even closer race to the proverbial stripe, with Dani George edging out Indiana’s Sam Brown by one point. Sam has been tearing it up on the JD circuit lately, winning the class two of the three days at the Dixieland nationals, all three days at the Wiregrass nationals, plus various local-area JD races. But Dani has been getting to a ton of races herself lately, and the Yahtzee just rolled her way this go-round.
For Tyler, keeping his Jr. Devo points total high has been a challenge, because the kid is absolutely killin’ it on the cruiser these days. Tough to race three classes (four with open, if you dare), so sometimes it had to be a “JD on Saturday, cruiser on Sunday” situation. Big ups to him and
