Erin Schaefer: October 6, 2002 – May 3, 2010
BMX NEWS is deeply saddened to report that seven-year old Erin Schaefer passed away last night in a San Diego-area hospital, after a seven-month battle with cancer (Nueroblastoma).
You might remember that the entire BMX community mobilized behind the Schaefer family when news of Erin’s illness broke. The “Support Erin” cause was in full effect at the 2009 ABA Grands in Tulsa, and sparked a national effort to bring moral and financial support to Erin and her family.
The “news” section of her website chronicles the events between December 1 and April 29, and tells a tale of gratitude, hope, joy and the inevitable setbacks that cancer patients endure as they move through treatment.
We recommend you give Erin’s story and bio a read on her site, and use the “donate” button, if it is at all in your reach to do so, in order to help the family through this toughest of times. Erin is obviously the baby of the family, and we cannot imagine how devastating such a loss would be if it happened to us.
The thoughts and prayers of BMXNEWS readers and, indeed, all BMXers are with the Schaefer family today.
