Red Bull “Stomping Ground” To Find New Location

BMXNEWS has just learned from sources inside the Chicago media community that the upcoming Red Bull “Stomping Ground” event, scheduled for May 7-15 at the corner of Wells and Harrison streets near downtown, will move from its original location, presumably due to community concerns over the crowd and the impact on the location after the event pulls up stakes. BMXNEWS was not able to confirm whether the event lost its permit, or moved voluntarily (or both).

In what used to be a fairly deserted swath of do-nothing railroad real estate, a bustling neighborhood of million-dollar loft condos and city hall-connected heavyweights has emerged. The parcel on which the event was to take place, is currently a fenced-off, grassy lot—some of the only greenspace in a 10-block radius. Dozing-over the grass to build a BMX dirt course was met with bitter resistance by the community, with some residents going so far as to post caustic comments on the Stomping Grounds community page.

Though no alternate location was readily available, a Red Bull media contact confirmed to BMXNEWS sources, that the event would be changing locations, and that a new location was being researched. They also said that the event would still take place on the promoted dates.
