Sneak Peek: USAC Champion Plates

It’s getting close to March 20, when USA Cycling will crown its 2010 National Champions. This one-race-for-all-the-marbles format will provide thrills, chills and probably some spills, as the birth year age classes vie for qualification slots to the UCI BMX World Championships at the end of July.

Certainly one of the other things riders will be vying for is the coveted USA #1 award plate (above) and the USAC BMX Champion’s Jersey (below). In chatting with Dominique Daniels a few months ago, she said that if you show up at a MTB race or a Velodrome with one of those stars & stripes jerseys on, people flip out, and you get instant respect—may even sign an autograph or two.
