Presidents Cup Packs A Good First Punch In the Derby City

“Seems like we were just on this road yesterday.” A disembodied voice said from the darkness of the far back. It was 2AM and a fairly solid miracle anyone would recognize our surroundings after being snowed in/on, Starbucked to high heaven and plied with ample AA batteries for handheld games found under the tree. But, true, it was. It hadn’t been all that long ago we were in shorts, aiming for Tom Sawyer and the warm embrace of Derby City BMX instead of the heart of Louisville. This time, the Broadbent Arena at the Kentucky Expo Center would be the focus of the BMX universe for the next three days as the 2009 NBL Presidents Cup and Christmas Classic got to it. Word was that the 190 moto tally for day one was a sliver sturdier than last year in Lexington (VA). Half expected the count to go up tomorrow, and half down, with reasons as scientific as any high school chemistry teacher could muster, or as superstitious as the best shaman in Sedona could proffer. A staple of the Presidents Cup is the earnest way the states band together to get their scream on for their state series heroes. The noise was worthy of Woodstock wattage, with solid walls of sound provided by the big states in the hunt top honors—namely Florida, Ohio, host state, Kentucky, and yes, BMXNEWS basecamp, Illinois!
The day’s racing had some great standouts, as the three-moto-transfer permitted perfects in lots of classes. CJ McGuire’s was thwarted in the main by fellow Floridian Tyler Faoro. Amanda Geving got to it on her new MCS and scored candlesticks across the board. Notable (perfect) wins also from Richie Dey (Above) in 10x and 9-10 Cruiser, John Sabatini (41-Over Expert), Victor Behm in 15x, a triple for Maliek Byndloss (14x, 13-14 Cruiser and 14-15 Open), Santiago Marin in 13x, Homestate homeslice Clint Herman in 11x, Tyshawn Carr in 9x and 8-9 Open and Spencer Cole in 8x, among others, so congrats to all the winners!
The pillow is locked and loaded to carry us to the Christmas Classic tomorrow, so dive in to the Presidents Cup Photo Gallery and enjoy the awesome action!
