John Purse and GHP Part Ways

The news broke this morning, via John’s Facebook page, that he was off GHP and was seeking a new sponsor for 2010.
The post went on to say
I Would like to thank GHP, Greg Hill and all the team for their support for the 2008 & 2009 seasons.

After an inquiry by BMXNEWS, both John and Greg Hill sent their respective answers:
I had a great two years (2008 & 2009) with GHP. They provided an opportunity for me to go out there and continue to race as many events as they could afford and I am grateful for that from the bottom of my heart. I have had a long history with Greg, but my heart is not there anymore. I wish GHP and the GHP family the greatest wishes. They are an outstanding group of people and wish them continued success.
For many years, I have not followed my heart and followed the safe path. The Veteran Pro class is growing in size and talent elevating it to the next level. I am excited on this new direction for me in BMX. Lastly, I truly Believe that one must close one door for another to open.
For 2010, I look to expand my racing schedule continuing on developing my BMX training business. I have a few things in the works and we will see what doors opens.
Thanks to BMXNews and all of the continued support from the BMX community. It means a great deal to be respected in this Life and this sport of BMX that we all Love.
All the best,
Jackal
When asked if John’s departure was facilitated by the new Randy Stumpfhauser contract, announced last week, Greg said:
“(Randy’s 2010 contract) has nothing to do with John Purse not riding for GHP, we made an offer that was more than enough for him to compete for the 2010 title. We slid the offer across the table, he declined, and decided to move on. John and I have been friends for 20 years, he is like a brother to me and I love him. But sometimes it’s time to move on I guess…We wish him all the best. Good luck Jackal!!!”

We’ll be keeping our eyes on John’s progress and will keep you posted as his prospects come into clearer focus.
