Perhaps true of any race, but never more than on Grand National weekend, an over-the-top experience is never about one component of the trip. It’s a volatile alchemy of planning, tradition, anticipation, meeting of expectations…and an eyedropper of luck that makes a Grands weekend truly one for the ages. That, by the way, goes for riders, vendors and race promoters alike. The 2009 installment is starting to unfold here in Tulsa. A decidedly-laidback vibe upstairs gave way to first forrays into the “for-all-the-marbles” intensity that Sunday will definitely bring. Heading over to the track for the Race Of Champions, then the Pro Spectacular and NAG 5 Challenge tonight…and even after all those amps, the weekend is only 1/3 over. There is going to be some amazing racing coming down.
