The Answer Scythe fork is about as ubiquitous on BMX Tracks as hot dogs on Coney Island. For 2010, you’ll see some new engineering in the mix with the introduction of the “Dagger” fork. BMX News spotted the item exposed ever-so-slightly out of Answer VP Ryan Birk’s messenger bag at the recent Interbike trade show, and sweet-talked him into giving us the low-down on the forthcoming fork.

“It’s a redefined, improved version of the Scythe line, we pushed the taper back on the side of the legs, which gives the rider more a little more strength for 50/50 impact, as well as 0/100 ‘on your face’ impact… we changed to true 7000-series dropout and changed the angle of the dropout a little bit and changed over to a 7000-series steer-tube to make it lighter, and stronger than the Scythe was. We’re also going to do it in a white carbon fiber weave, so that’ll give a light-colored ’sparkly’ look, in addition to the black.”

Answer will offer all sizes for the Dagger that are offered for the Scythe (Mini, Mini Cruiser, Expert, Pro and Pro 24),

When asked if the tried-and-true and well-loved Scythe will be going bye-bye, Ryan said “I don’t see the Scythe going away, right away, cause there are people who that’s all they’ll want to run, so we’ll keep it in production for at least another season…”

Pricing for the Dagger will be a bit more than the Scythe (”in the range of $10-$15 at retail,” says Ryan), and should be available to BMX News readers by the ABA Grands (but we pledged not to hold him to that).

The prototype we spied in the aisles at Interbike was going directly to Bubba Harris, who was going to put it through its paces and make sure it was perfect…then the greenlight to the factory.

Below is a larger detail shot of the Dagger.
