Chicago “Heartbroken” after losing Olympic Bid to Rio de Janeiro

Well, that didn’t take long…at the very first ballot, Chicago was eliminated as a candidate city for the 2016 Summer Olympics. More than three years of work, and more than 10 million dollars invested in the bid have now been rendered for naught with the stroke of 94 pens in Copenhagen this morning.
Call it sour grapes, but I can’t help but think that, perhaps, the Chicago 2016 committee went too far in their promotion of the bid. Lots of people around the world are lukewarm on the US these days, so when Oprah, and Air Force One descend on the scene, you have to wonder if the IOC members felt that they just could not let us have this one…and it might provide a good opportunity for a rare smackdown of the USA. Less about the content of the bid and the city, and more about showing the USA that other people have power too.
The decision was announced at 12:50 Eastern time. The 2016 Summer games will be going to Rio de Janeiro. To web site of Rio 2016 was kocked offline after the announcement due to all the traffic pouring in.
