Day and Pajon tops in Chula Time Trials
107 Men and 20 women gated up this evening for the time trials of the Chula Vista Supercross. Top pro and soon-to-be-pro riders made the climb up the 30 foot starting tower at the US Olympic Training Center, and it was on like dijon.
With Elite Women world champ Sara Walker out with an injury, Junior Women top stepper Mariana Pajon of Columbia posted the top time in the first round. Americans Arielle Martin, Taylor Wolcott and Brooke Crain all made it in to the top eight first round. Interesting tidbit: Felicia Stancil’s time trials win in the recent USAC Junior Development Camp would have been good enough to get her in the top eight. Two more years, Felicia!!
On the Men’s side, most of the household names were in attendance, with jersey backs showing “Young” “Strombergs,” “Day 365,” “Robinson” (first time seeing dR in his World Champ jersey and 010 Fly Gear), and more. The guys also had some fast juniors sharing the stage with them, in the personage of Justin Posey, Corben Sharrah, Connor Fields, Tommy Zula, Jeremy Rommel and more. After the first round of me was in the books, Mike Day swiped the lead away from Maris Strombergs…then Donny took full advantage of his final-man-to-ride position to knock Maris down another position. Top four for the fellas went Day, Robinson, Strombergs and Sam Willoughby.
