Damien Godet says *I’m Good* after SX Crash
BMX News sent a “how’re you doing?” message, via Facebook, to Damien. He replied quickly with the following:
I’m good thank you! I left the hospital on Thursday. Now I’m at home in France and feel better and better.
I had a surgery on my left wrist, which is broken, and had some pictures of my head. I had a little bit of blood in my brain but it’s ok now (just feel crazy all the time haha).
I don’t know how long will be my recovery but right now I don’t care! I just know I will be there next year for the Euro champ and SX races.
The rumors were absolutely wrong, I’m safe!
See you soon on tracks,
dams
When asked if the helicopter in the picture contributed (or caused) his crash, Damien, in a follow up message, said
Yes I crashed because of the helicopter. First, on the gate, I didn’t hear the “bip” and didn’t start normally (helico was too close and made a lot of noise). Then I remember that I felt a lot of head wind at the bottom of the start hill. So I thought I didn’t have enough speed to jump the first double.
I tried to brake but I think it was too late ! So I crashed in the middle of the double.
I could have avoided the crash by jumping the double, I could maybe make it with this speed… But if the helicopter were not here I would have never crashed like that.
However (I didn’t feel that) but some people say that at the moment of my take off, the wind of the helicopter pushed me in the back and gave me more speed… so I crashed harder!
It sounds crazy, but all this story is crazy!!!
This photo was taken two seconds before Damien’s crash, and shows him much lower than the other riders who made it over.
We are REALLY glad to hear from you, dams, and look forward to covering your return to the gate really soon! Keep in touch with us here at BMXNEWS.COM, as you have some big time fans here!
Damien won the time trials at the previous SX stop in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa in August, and was definitely one to watch in CV, before his accident in practice on Saturday.
