Metroplex BMX in Texas to host USAC BMX Championship

abalogo.jpgGilbert, Arizonaâ€December 21, 2008 The American Bicycle Association's Metroplex BMX in Desoto, TX has been chosen to host the USAC National Championships. The USAC National Championship is the only way to earn a Stars and Stripes USAC National Championship jersey and the only way to qualify to the 2008 World Championships in Beijing China.

In cooperation with USAC the ABA and Metroplex BMX have rescheduled the annual ABA Super Nationals to March 27-30, 2008. The race weekend begins with all day practice on Thursday, March 27th followed by The ABA Super National #1 on Friday, March 28th, the USAC National Championship on Saturday, March 29th and ABA Super National #2 on Sunday, March 30th.

 

Steve Johnson stated “This is a very prestigious event that offers the only internationally recognized National Title for BMX. It is very exciting to watch the sport of BMX get the same recognition as other disciplines under the USA Cycling umbrella We are also very excited to bring our National Championships to the wonderful venue in Desoto, TX”.

 

 

“The ABA and Metroplex BMX are excited to partner with USAC to host such a prestigious event. With BMX entering the Olympics, the 2008 USAC National Championship will play an important role in the selection of the USA Cycling Olympic BMX team” said Bernard Anderson, Vice President of the ABA.

 

Anthony Russell, President of Metroplex BMX stated "It is an Honor to be able host such a prestigious event in conjunction with our annual ABA Super Nationals, with USA Cycling’s involvement during an Olympic year, this event is sure to bring a whole new level of exposure to our sport".

 

Gary Elmore, Track Operator at Metroplex stated "It is exciting for all of our local riders and the exposure is sure to bring in lots of new riders at Metroplex BMX".

 

“Given the centralized location of Desoto to the rest of the United States and the indoor nature of the facility, we’re confident we’ve selected the best venue to host our national championships in an Olympic year,” commented Justin Rogers, USA Cycling national events director. “From the five-year-old Challenge Class riders to Olympic hopefuls and elite world champions, Metroplex BMX will help to deliver a phenomenal national-championship experience for competitors and spectators alike.”

 

The ABA has structured the ABA Super National Weekend to incorporate USA Cycling’s most prestigious BMX race, the "USA Cycling BMX National Championships". All winners of the USAC National Championship will receive a USA Cycling stars and stripes jersey. All participants will also receive a custom USA Cycling number plate for the event with top 8 finishers from last years event running the numbers 1 through 8. Metroplex BMX, the first exclusive ABA BMX covered arena track in the country, will provide a unique location that has never before been experienced at a USAC BMX event.
