A Local BMX Legend Retires
“Emery Park BMX Wichita, KS…. Just one year after the American Bicycle Association was founded in 1977; Ken Lee began his BMX racing career at Sprockets in Wichita, KS. From 1983-1985, Ken served as Track Operator at Dukes in Wichita, KS. In 1986, Emery Park BMX (EPBMX) in Wichita, KS and G.E.A.R., Inc. (Group Effort Association for Riders) was formed. From the beginning, Ken Lee was not just a racer or a BMX Dad, but also a volunteer. As the only original G.E.A.R., Inc. Board Member, it would be impossible to measurer the hours a dedicated volunteer like Ken has contributed and the total impact he has made upon the Midwest BMX community.”"Ken Lee definitely had an opinion and was the first to let you know what needed to be done to not only improve the facilities he raced at, and also to guide many young riders into accomplished, competitive racers. He led through experience and by example. His stories of past BMX victories were always interesting and inspiring. Those that got to know Ken realized that underneath the gruff exterior was a man with a very soft heart. He made his way to hospitals to visit sidelined family members, usually with a gift in hand for the children. Once youve been involved in the BMX community you appreciate that we are all one big family. In the course of 28 years, the number of young lives he touched is countless. Many people do not know the amount of memberships and race fees Ken paid to help those that needed a little boost into our sport. For all the Dr. Peppers and fun you provided to us over the course of your life, we all say thank you. Below is all his accomplishments in his past 28 years of racing BMX.
