“Campus Corner Road Criterium Race Norman, OK The G Team’s Greg Romero wins his first Road Criterium race this past weekend at the Campus Corner Criterium held at the OU campus in Norman, OK. This was Romero’s 3rd try at the highly physical demanding sport which was held on the streets of the famous OU hang out, Campus Corner, managed to avoid 2 wrecks and finish the race in 1st aboard his Masi “”Gran Criterium”" road racing bicycle. Romero had previously entered 2 other crit races, crashing on the first lap in his first race and not finishing a crit last weekend due to a inadequate race strategy. The Campus Corner race, which yielded 40+ entrants in the category 4 classification, was on a fast and technical 1.5 KM closed street course and is regarded as one of the hardest crits in the state.”"Romero who stayed patient through out the majority of the race got on the wheel of Steve Schlegal, who jumped out in the lead with 1 lap to go, closely followed him into the last corner which lead out to a 250 meter sprint to the finish. “”I followed that dude going into the last corner and set him up on a relaxed high-low and came off his left shoulder”" Romero says. “”Steve started pedaling hard, but I just stood up on my Shimano Ultegra pedals and started pounding them 2000 watt style as hard as I could. However, all I remember before though was how cramped my calves were going into the final lap in 2nd, I had to tap in to the mental strength that BMX has taught me.”" Greg Romero, is sponsored by The G team, Masi Bikes, Shimano Components, Bike Store too and Mechanic/Coach Charles Long.”
