2006 BMX UCI World Championship Update
“April 10, 2006 – The 2006 UCI BMX World Championships and BMX World Challenge Championships in Sao Paulo, Brazil, July 28-31, are less than 3 months away and U.S. athletes who are planning on attending, whether Championship (Elite) Class or Challenge Class, need to be sure of the following:”"- The petition deadline to be considered for a start position, unless pre-qualified and already entered, is April 17. Petitions are not limited to any one BMX racing organization or body. The process is the same for everybody. Be sure to include complete contact information, racing age and class, and any pertinent results to be considered. Any and all petitions should be sent to USA Cycling. If mailing, send to Doug Martin, USA Cycling, 1 Olympic Plaza, Colorado Springs, CO 80909. If emailing, please send to dmartin@usacycling.org – Once all petitions have been received they will be reviewed and based on available start positions, integrated into the overall U.S. Team list as starting positions permit. Once finalized, the entire U.S. Team list, including both Championship (Elite) Class and Challenge Class, will be posted on the USA Cycling website. – To race in the 2006 UCI BMX World Championships in all classes, as well as future UCI Internationally recognized events, a USAC International BMX license is needed. Licenses can be obtained through the USAC website www.usacycling.org or by contacting USA Cycling at 719-866-4581. – U.S. Team jerseys are expected to be available on or about July 1. This should provide individuals enough time to prepare their own U.S. Team jersey with their respective personal sponsors. IMPORTANT: There are detailed guidelines to sponsorship logo(s) size, space, location(s) and approved affixing method(s). This detail will be provided with all U.S. Team jerseys and also posted on the USAC website. – IMPORTANT: If traveling to the 2006 UCI BMX World Championships, you will need a passport AND travel visa. Information on obtaining a passport and travel visa can be obtained at http://travel.state.gov/ – On a related note, the qualification criteria for 2007 BMX UCI World Championships and World Challenge Championships in Vancouver, B.C, Canada has not yet been determined.
