5 – UCI Supercross Questions
“We asked 3 BMX pros what they thought of the UCI Supercross Event in San Jose as part of the Dew Action Sports Tour. Five short questions to see how they felt about the race and what could’ve been made the event better. Surprising enough the Starting Hill was the best part of the track and the jumps were too small…Wait till next time guys!! You’ll be sorry.. Read on to see what Stumpy, Meadows and The Mad Jackal had to say”"What part of the track did you like the most? Stumpy – The hill and the first straight was the most fun and the most scary to answer question 3. Meadows – I liked the gate and the first straight. Jackal – The roll in I guess, something new to try. How did you feel about the new style gate with single lanes? Stumpy – The gate worked great, I liked it. Meadows – At first I was not to sure about these individual gates.. would they all fall the same, would one not fall but the others do, etc. But it turned out to be fine Jackal – I liked the gate, but some riders were figuring out how to jump/push the gate down to get an advantage. Cheaters… What part of the track made you scared? Stumpy – See question 1. Meadows – Nothing really, and that was what kind of bummed me out. There is nothing like being afraid and having butterflies in your stomach for that first run. Jackal – Going down the gate/first straight for the first time. Is this the direction you’d like to see BMX go in? Stumpy – As far as what?? Atmostphere? Absolutely. Track Design? Yes. We need to be testing our limits. I thought the track was fun, raceable, and not too dangerous. Meadows – Sure why not, it needs to progress especially in professional level. It is always great to ride a track that not all skilled level and ages can race. Jackal – Absolutely! We as Pros needed to graduate into this style of racing as it fits our needs as far as sponsorship, our abilities on a bike, and the respect and treatment we deserve. What could have made the race better? Stumpy – The race was run pretty smoothly I thought so I don’t know what could have made it better there. As far as the track, riders can pick apart any track and complain about what can be different, so I don’t feel a need to say anything about that, it was different and provided some good action. The race will go down as one of the funnest I have attended. Meadows – Bigger jumps, little harder of a track, not so many laps. All in all great race and I am appreciative of the whole event. Jackal – think this event the first time out hit the nail right on the head, but next time I think we could have a more difficult track as far as bigger jumps. Thanks Robbie for your hard work leading up to the event. Your involvement in the track building made all the difference in the world.”
