South Park Drama

July 4, 2005 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors

“A huge weekend of racing went down at the famous South Park BMX Track this past weekend. Over 200 motos and a BIG track kept the South Park reputation up as the must hit national of the summer. Who won the big Show in Elite? You guess right, Warwick Stevenson. Warlock came through and schooled everybody for 2 big wins making the points chase even tighter going into the Grands. What else Happened……….”"Drug Test! A large group or riders were tested directly after the first moto on Sunday. Elite riders that were tested include Warwick Stevenson, Christian Becerene, Robert DeWilde and Mikey Day. These riders we not suspect but were still tested as part of the overall selection. Word in the pits was that Christian had stage fright and couldn’t pee in front of an old man holding a bottle. So he had to drink a gallon of water and race through the qualifiers on a full stomach. But finally made it back to the porta-jon to fill the bottle! Other riders were tested (Girls and Ams) along with the Pros. They were testing for performance enhancing drugs and other including the drug cannabis. And as history has it, a few riders will get busted for the weed. Brian Foster was suspended years ago for having weed in his system at an ABA Race. There’s always one rider. Racing Larry Local called in to report on South Park. He said that The Warlock was riding great and pulled the wins off easily. Chalk two more up for the Aussie and momentum going into the Worlds in Paris. DeWilde looked to be the fastest guy on the track but just couldn’t put it together for the finals. Donny Robinson was the last guy to qualify out of the motos with an unheard of 14 points with a 3. The normal cut off in the Pro class is a standard 11 or 12 points. Call it lucky or just plain hard racing. Kyle Bennett and Greg Romero had off weekends in South Park. Probably tired from 4 weeks straight of racing. Coming off hard weekends at Rockford and Evansville all the riders were feeling fatigue. Some would joke and say that they probably knew about the drug test and laid low, but thats totally untrue. These guys are as professional as they get, as is all the other Elite riders. Mike Days Points In Evansville Mike Day won day two and now there is worries that his points did not count. It appears that his membership was expired and he received no points for the days racing.
