FACTORY HYPER DOMINATES MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
“FACTORY HYPER DOMINATES MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND Carlsbad, California The number one team in BMX, Factory Hyper / No Fear / Tangent, once again proved why they are the top dogs in the USA. Hyper stunned the BMX world this weekend at the ABAs Spring Nationals and also the NBLs Tarheel National by sweeping the Factory division competition both days, at both races, with four Factory wins.”"When was the last time a Factory team won both days in two different sanctions on the same weekend? If you say never, you would probably be right. The two NBL wins in North Carolina extended Hypers lead over second place Dans Competition to six points, giving Hyper a needed buffer going into the last leg of the NBL season and the advantage to three-peat as NBL National champs. With two wins in Roseville, Hyper made it four in a row at ABA A schedule nationals and closed the gap on the leader to less than 120 points. With two very low scores to drop, Hyper has a chance to regain the Factory lead at the next ABA A race, the Mid West Nationals in Rockford, Illinois and make a run at the ABA Factory team title. Hyper has a chance to make history in unifying the Factory Team tiles ABA and NBL. NBL Tarheel National Team manager, Anthony Derosa and crew came into Tanglewood BMX in Clemmons, North Carolina after having just regained the NBL team lead two weeks prior in Akron, Ohio. Derosas goal at Tanglewood was to extend the team lead and the Hyper crew did just that. With 19 wins, Hyper stunned the field posting a 100 for Saturday and a 96 on Sunday, dropping low scores and extending the team lead by six points, giving Derosa a little breathing room. Warren McDow proved he was in no slump, as some internet sites would have you believe, by dominating 16 Expert on his Hyper Assault Pro XL just as he did at the ABAs US Nationals a month prior. Just to make sure everyone noticed, McDow added a 16-and-over Open win for a double on Saturday. Diego Alejandre doubled in 15 Expert and 15 Cruiser on Saturday on his Hyper Assault Pro XL and Pro Cruiser while Amanda Carr doubled in 14 Girls for the weekend on her Assault Pro Lite. National #1 Girl and Girl Cruiser Krista Fournier grabbed wins in three out of four classes in 11 Girls and 11-13 Girls Cruiser. Justin Posey rocked 11 Expert and 11 Cruiser with a double-double for the weekend on his Assault Expert and Expert Cruiser. Anthony Derosa killed the 10 year olds by doubling in 10 Expert and winning Cruiser on Saturday aboard his Assault Junior and Mini Cruiser. Derosa had a shot at the double-double until he was combined with the 11 Year olds in Cruiser on Sunday. Samantha Miller grabbed an 8 girls win on her Hyper Junior and Mike McGonigle won 22-29 Expert on Sunday on his Assault Pro XXL. Sinead Miller had to settle for two seconds in 14 Girls on her Assault Jr. Pro to teammate Amanda Carr. Next up, look for the NBL champs to rock Evansville in June. ABA Spring Nationals TJ Johnson was once again down a man with new recruit Bobby Edson out with a shoulder injury sustained in San Bernardino at the US Nationals. Add to that Mike McGonigle and Warren McDow needed at the NBL North Carolina race and TJ had the makings of a slim team sheet. But, when you can throw six names on there like Lundy, Kerley, Abbe, Kobza, Kubalak, and Post, who needs a huge roster? Johnson rocked the Factory teams in San Berdoo with a small roster and he was determined to do it again in Roseville. With 13 individual wins, the Hyper crew rocked the Factory field, coming home with two team wins for the weekend. Hyper posted a 204 on Saturday and a 215 on Sunday closing the gap on the points lead. Mike Lundy had a disappointing weekend coming away with only one win for the weekend, a 17-24 open win on Saturday. Mikes outlook is bright however with the next national stop being his home track of Rockford BMX. Rumors abound about when Lundy will turn pro and Rockford would only make sense, being in front of the hometown crowd. Chad Kerley has been on a mission lately, dominating the 11 Expert class. The Tiger slapped on his new ACS Crossfire wheels onto his Assault Expert frame and doubled on Saturday in Class and Open and came away with only one win on Saturday, this time just in Open. The class win made it his sixth and put Kerley squarely in the #3 spot in overall National rankings. Jacob Abbe had been slumping lately but his luck would change in Roseville. After making a gearing change on his Assault Junior, Abbe came alive, scoring a win in 7 Expert on Saturday. Sunday Abbe grabbed a 7-8 Open win and a hard fought second place in 7 Expert. He may not have won class on Sunday but he scored a legion of fans by being the youngest rider to boost all the second straight doubles. Lahsaan Kobza has been on fire lately, doubling at the last race in San Berdoo and was the man to beat in Roseville despite the return of Answers BoBo Lechner. Kobza moved up to a Hyper Pro frame this weekend and, after leading the 13 Expert main through the second turn on Saturday, Kobza bonked in the rhythm, got passed by a kid on a pink bike, and had to settle for second. Kobza wouldnt let that happen on Sunday and lead it from start to finish. Ben Kubalak was back from an ankle injury and proved he was up to snuff on his Assault Pro XL with a 13-14 Open win on Saturday and a second in class. On Sunday, Kubalak had to settle for a second in Open but walked away with the class victory. Two-time National #1 Girl and two-time National #1 Girl Cruiser Alise The Beast Post had a rough Saturday. In her first main event, 13-14 Mixed Open, the Beast came unclipped and had to settle for third. In her second main, 14 Girls, The Beast lead the pack out of turn one, only to get a little squirrely over the first double in the second straight and crashed off the track. She redeemed herself in 14-16 Girls Cruiser with a nice start-to-finish victory. When was the last time Post didnt at least double? Interestingly enough it was at Roseville last year. Maybe its something in the Nor Cal water. On Sunday, Alise was back to her old self, with yet another triple to add to her collection aboard her Assault Pro-Lite. All in all, Memorial day weekend was one of the most successful in Hyper history. Four incredible wins proves that Hyper is the team to beat in 2005.
