Actual Journal Entry
Bart de Jong & his brother Paul & I went to a track & rode. Its trippy. It has the biggest doubles that Ive ever seen! Theres even trials right next to the track. We came back to Nico Doess house & later Bas de Bever came over & we went to a club in Belgium. The beers strong here! Had fun, but it was hard to talk to chicks. Then we walked to another club. Got back at 4am."
Looking Back Now
I stayed in Europe for 7 weeks that summer. I based myself at Nico Doess house in Eindhoven, Holland and went to races all around Europe. At the time, I was sponsored by Nicos company, Webco. It was pretty cool staying at his house that summer. His father, Gerrit, basically started BMX racing in Europe in the late 70s. So there was a ton of BMX talk and memorabilia in that house. Bart de Jong was (and still is) into anything BMX, but his main focus was freestyle.
He was doing a paper zine back in the day called the Fat Zine. Now hes taken it to the web where its called www.FatBMX.com Id say that his site and BMXNews.com, are two of the best BMX news sites out there. Have you ever had beer from Belgium? Their Duval beer is 9% alcohol!"
