Around the World On Twenty Inchers

May 18, 2005 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors

“I’ve (Nick Busey) been busy training and preparing for my upcoming journey. Ileave in just under three months now, and it’s time to get everything ready. People have been posting on the forums, and telling their friends. I’ve seen posts on several message boards and news listings. Donations have been trickling in over the last few weeks, and I really appreciate everyone’s support.”"This letter is mainly just to explain to everyone what this trip is, what I hope to accomplish, and why and how I plan to do it. On July 2nd, I’m leaving for the journey of a lifetime. I will be riding my bike around the world. The catch, (well one of them, there’s actually quite a few catches) is that I will be riding a single-gear BMX bike, not a road-bike. I will be riding my bike from town to town, until I travel, literally, around the world. Along the way, I will be keeping a running photo-documentary and journal which I will publish regularly on the website which I have setup for the trip, Around the World on Twenty Inches (http://www.atwo20.com/). Another catch is that I have no money. As a result my trip will be funded by the sale of prints of photographs that I take on the way, as well as donations and website advertisements. To keep expenses down, I will be camping and CouchSurfing (http://www.couchsurfing.com/) the whole time. I will be cooking many of my own meals, and pretty much living how you would expect someone traversing the globe to live. I will also be pulling a trailer behind me, loaded with equipment and supplies that I will need. The focus of the trip though is (surprisingly?) NOT the long-distance cycling. I actually (prior to my training for this trip) have never really done any real long-distance riding at all. That’s another ‘catch’ for those keeping track. The focus is instead around the BMX bike stunt area. I will be stopping at skate parks, trails, events and contests all along the way, filming other people ride, and hopefully even getting a little bit of riding in myself. Why would anyone do something like this? Why not? I just graduated from high school last year, and I’m still living at home. I had been trying to find ways to do what I love. Travel, take photos and ride my bike. I’ve done a bit of that here and there, but unfortunately traveling by most means can be quite expensive. So, how can I ride my bike, take photographs, travel, and see the world for free? The solution is this trip. That pretty much wraps it up for this edition. My trip can only succeed with your help. Please feel free to send me e-mail, spread the word about my trip, visit the website, post on the Forums and donate. * A note about this letter. * You are receiving this because you either signed up for the Forums, you donated, or you’ve expressed interest.
