ProClube BMX Racing: Race Report

“ProClube BMX Racing Team in the 3rd Race of Portuguese National Championship of 2005 /1st of the Setbals Regional Championship of 2005 Paulino Leite leads the Regional Championship and strengthens the advantage in the National Championship (15-16 yrs). Last April 16th, ProClubes BMX Racing team was in Forninho track to ride the 3rd National race and 1st Setubals Regional Championship. Last Saturday the wind adds an extra difficulty to race this track. The strong wind caused some nasty falls. One of this victim was ProClubes racer Bruno Berto, whom got injured in practice. ProClube was represented by the eight athletes: In 8-10yrs, Jorge Rocha from Lisbon, Jorge Wilson from Lisbon and Micaela Monteiro from Lisbon; in 15-16yrs, Paulino Leite from Portimo; in Elites, Bruno Berto from Almada, Bruno Carvalho from Caldas da Rainha, Jorge Monteiro from Lisbon and Jorge Santos from Lisbon. 8-10yrs Micaela Monteiro got started in BMX with this race. The little 7 yrs old girl, prided the team with her dedication by finishing the 3 heats. Battling for the 3rd place were Jorge Rocha and Jorge Wilson. Jorge Rocha even threatened 2nd place, but in last straight he wasnt able to keep it. In the 2nd heat Jorge Wilson surprised everybody by passing Jorge Rocha in 2nd turn. Rocha was high on berm and Wilson block passed him, kept a stronger spinning until crossing the finishing line. Jorge Rocha was 3rd – 4th – 3rd, finishing in 3rd. Hes in 2nd on the Regional Championship overall and 2nd on National Championship overall. Jorge Wilson made 4th – 3rd – 5th, and got 4th at the end of the race. Hes 4th on the Regional Championship overall and 5th on the National Championship overall. Micaela Monteiro made 6th – 6th – 6th, and got 6th at the end of the race. Shes 5th on the Regional Championship overall and 6th on the National Championship overall. 15-16yrs Paulino Leite has shown a great evolution. In this race, Paulino dominated the 3 heats of semi-finals and the Main Final, finishing in 1st. In his 1st heat, Paulino Leite did the holeshot but lost the leading position by getting to high on the first curve. In the 3rd turn, he returned to the 1st position. He choused great lines on berms and got great speed in 2nd straight. In the other two heats, Paulino leaded from start to finishing line. In the Main Final, Paulino made a good start. As he got started from the outside line, he got 2nd at the first turn, but attacked the 1st place in de second double and got inside on the second turn achieving the lead. With good turning technique, he got extra precious pedaling that gave him great speed to the lead. Now he leads both Regional and National Championships. Elites O Bruno Berto start this day the hard way. He was ready to blast on his local track, but while practicing, Berto felt on the 2nd big double. He jumped fast, and while he was nose-diving, the strong wind made him fail and get hurt in his left foot because it got stacked in the automatic pedal. Bruno Carvalho and Jorge Monteiro raced the same series on final. In the first heat Bruno got 5th and Jorge got 4th. Second heat, Monteiro finished in 4th and Carvalho in 5th. Last heat, and last chance qualifier. Who gets until 4th go to the Semi. Carvalho made a better start, Monteiro was very close, but wasnt able to get to Carvalho. Carvalho was on the Semi. In another series was Jorge Santos who returned after a year out of the races. He came back strong and motivated, but with some physical handicaps. In second heat, Jorge started very well and was battling for the 3rd place on the first turn. Riding the inside line, Santos was able to keep the 3rd place until the last turn. In the last straight there were three racers side by side battling for the most wanted 3rd position. Jorge made 4th. The Semi-Final was possible, but in the last heat Santoss front wheel slept and he felt on the 3rd turn while battling by the 4th position. Bruno Carvalho made 4th – 5th – 4th, in , 5th in and 4th in Final B getting 12th at the end of the race and stands in 9th on the Regional Championship overall and 13th on the National Championship overall. Jorge Monteiro made 5th – 4th – 5th, and got 13th at the end of the race. Hes 10th on the Regional Championship overall and 12th on the National Championship overall. Jorge Santos made 5th – 4th – 6th, and got 14th at the end of the race. Hes 11th on the Regional Championship overall and 18th on the National Championship overall. Team Director This organization was very well. Our presence was very good, and we were able to keep up a nice sports environment. Its a shame Bruno Berto injury. We hope hell get well soon, in order to avoid complications in his familiar and professional living. Paulino got results of his hard work in every day pratice. He have much to learn and he is in the right way. The young kids did a nice work, theyre very motivated with the sport, its easy to work with them.
