March 10, 1992 Postal Jeep

Actual Journal Entry
Did some homework in the morning. Then Jay Lonergan took me to the Newport Beach Post Office to look at the mail trucks. They had one for $400. (A 1971 Jeep mail truck). I bought it! The drivers seat is on the wrong side and everything! The transmission started skipping on the drive home. I rode my bike to school. Got back and talked with the guy from Split clothing. Hell take me to the Vegas NBL race this weekend. Ill only race one day cause Im broke."

Looking Back Now
That $400 Postal Jeep was my first car that I bought in California. It sure was a roach! It only had one seat, the drivers seat. I remember throwing a bunch of couch cushions in the back for anyone crazy enough to drive in it with me. Im not sure that it was even worth the $400 I paid for it. It was kind of fun though, piling people into it and driving on the wrong side of the car. I guess you could consider it my first SUV! I remember going to the house where they we making Split clothes. They were doing all of their screen-printing in the garage. Back then, it was a rinky-dink operation.

I guess you could say that its done pretty well over the last 13 years. Too bad I didnt stay sponsored by them! I talked with Chris Mad Dog Moeller the next day & got sponsored by S&M. Back then, a good sponsor paid your entry fees and that was it. I was stoked that I got to race both days in Vegas that weekend. I ended up getting 8th place one day in AA pro and won a whopping $100. I was actually winning the third AA Pro main until Charles Townsend passed me in the last turn. In my whole Pro career, I was only ever winning two AA mains, and Charles passed me both times in the last turn. That sucker"
