Days Of The Wildman

June 13, 1992 IBMXF Slagharen, Holland Actual Journal Entry I woke up late & missed my first moto, so I wasnt able qualify. Damn! Got a 2nd & 1st in my next two motos. After the race, I entered the King of Dirt contest in the Western Show arena. The jump was SO fresh! It was 12ft long & you go 10ft high. I almost pulled a 720, but I won the contest & $50 & a big cup. There were 2,000 spectators. The crowd was wild. Afterwards, I partied with the German freestylers & we kept the whole campground up.”"Looking Back Now For many years, this was the race of the year in Europe. The track had a concrete-like, white smooth surface, it was located in an amusement park, there were a zillion cabins that people camped in, it hosted Europes biggest jump contests of the time, every fast rider from all over Europe was there, and there was a co-ed nude spa right down the road! What more could you ask for? I was stoked that I won that huge cup for the King of Dirt. Its as big as a Wimbledon cup. Ive still got that thing on my entertainment center in my living room. Its that cool! Back in the day when they used to have jump contests at the races, it was like one big party with all of the dirt jumpers, racers, & freestylers at one event. I miss those days. That could be the jump-start that BMX racing needs. Bring back some quality jump contests on Saturday nights! Oh yeah, who goes all the way over to Holland for a race and then sleeps in and misses their moto? Me, thats who.”
