Wheres BMX on TV?

March 31, 2005 by BMXNEWS.COM Editors

“Whats on TV these days? In-between all the fake talk shows and news channels we tried to find a true sports channel this afternoon. We flipped over to ESPN2, the same channel that once aired the “”NBL Road To Glory”" Series and countless other BMX programs a few years ago. Today we found a completely new programming schedule that offered no BMX. Thats a surprise since BMX racing is in the 2008 Olympics, Right?”"Why isn’t BMX Racing on TV these days. A good question to ask yourselves. As we watch ESPN2, the “”Nathans Hot Dog Eating Championship”" has taken a prime slot in ESPN2′s programming schedule. And later today we won’t be deprived of any Poker because there’s 2 full hours of it showing. Oh Yea, we almost missed the Billiards Tournament! Keep asking yourself why these no BMX on TV. We need not to be selfish either. As we looked at the schedule there was no Freestyle BMX, Skateboarding, Wake Boarding or any other Extreme Sports. The Olympics has added BMX so why hasen’t the main stream public taken interests. Who would ever thought that the only TV programming that BMX Racing would get would be the Olympics every 4 years! A lot of people say that BMX is going to grow like crazy with the attention of the Olympics, But will it? If racing continues to stay off TV how will people know about it? How will it grow? Having a few guys and girls going over to China might not bring the publicity level we are looking for. Step one was getting a BMX Racing Magazine back in circulation. Now we have to get back on TV. This isn’t meant to be negative about our sport growing, just a reminder of where we are in the public eye. Yes we do have the Olympics coming our way. Let hope the sport can feed off of it as much as possible because it won’t be back for another 4 years! Written by: George Morris
