February 19, 1989 ABA Winter Nationals -Chandler, AZ

Actual Journal Entry
17 & Over Expert- Had Brian Reust, Dean Rana, & Ron Petit in my moto. I qualified in the first one. I made it to the stacked main! I got third behind Kenny May and Steve Veltman, but I got DQed for jumping the gate. I dont think I did. 17 Cruiser- I had Brian Reust in my moto. In the first one, he hit me in the first turn, so I took him out in the 3rd turn. In the main, I moved over on Kenny May right out of the gate and got 5th. I proved to all of them ABA riders that I can hang and I aint gonna take no sh*t!"

Looking Back Now-
This was the first time I ventured out of Ohio to hit a big ABA national out West. I was riding for MCS/Eagle Snacks at the time and we had a really big rivalry with the Free Agent team. Free Agent was lead by the big troublemaker, Kenny May. Him and I even got into a scuffle in staging on Friday. I had a lot of pride back then seeing as I was an NBL racer from the Midwest. It was an East coast vs. West Coast, NBL vs. ABA, Eagle Snacks vs. Free Agent type of weekend. Half of time, I wouldnt care what place I got. Just as long as I beat or messed up a certain rider. The tension on the gate was pretty high!"
