BlockJam3D November 20th
“We are doing a Sweet 16 KING OF DIRT Bike Reunion, 7 band festival, and vintage bike gathering on November 20th here at the Block Shop in Lancaster California. All the details are listed below. I hope you can make it out. We expect over 5000 people through the day. Below is all of my contact info.”"On November 20th we will do the third event since we opened our bike shop (The Block Shop) last year. It is dubbed “”Block Jam 3D”" and will be a fair type event featuring 7 bands, half pipe and street course built into the stage. I am asking for your assistance in making this event something that will be talked about for years to come.
Here is a bit of history. On this weekend 16 years ago I hosted the first King of Dirt which went on to be talked about to this day. It was way ahead of its time (before money and sponsorship ruled the sport). Historically this is a proven good weather weekend. It is also the weekend of my wedding anniversary which was chosen for the same reasons. The three local radio stations agreed to sponsor the event. I then asked Rally Hyundai to jump on board as a headline sponsor as it keeps everything in the family and helps solidify the program. I did not expect the response they have given. Eric Prothro is the General Sales Manager at Rally and he is behind this event 100%. He went to Hyundai and got co-op funds and is doing a huge Hyundai campaign for the event. He is bringing in Adelphia Cable to do a program on the sports show, along with the news, and In The Valley daily TV programs. High Desert Broadcasting is also sponsoring the event with advertisements, promotions on 3 of their stations, and a live remote from The Edge (alternative) which is the most listened to station in the valley. Eric also has lined up the newspapers to do a story line on the entire event and the history of Block (where we came from & why we are doing this). I have also contacted all of the Transworld BMX, BMX Plus, and 26 Magazine to do a feature on the shop demo (like they used to in the 80s). In addition we are working a deal to get it aired on Red Square TV after the event. 7 Bands are featured in the event and one last band will win a spot from the three weeks leading up to the event. The headliner band is Action Heroes which features the lead guitarist from Alien Antfarm, and the second headliner is Handsome Devil. Both of these bands played the last Block Jam which was a huge success. The three weeks prior to the event will be an event dubbed “”Rock To Block”" and will be a radio promoted contest to take a final 8 bands (selected from demo CDs sent to the station). It will be two consecutive weekends of 4 bands battling for one spot on the third night final. The three events will take place at the largest night club in the Valley – the legendary Schooners. They have given us full reign on the afternoon and nights of the events and with the sponsorship from Rally Hyundai and the radio stations it is going to be huge. The athletes are such a huge draw for the event. I have commitments from Jamie Bestwick, TJ Lavin, Fuzzy Hall, Steven Murray, Brian Schmith, Eric Carter, John Cowen, Dave Cullinan, Todd Steen, Gonzo, & Gary Laurent Todd Lyons, Rich & Gary Housman, Bo Wade and Caesar. Interest from Todd Corbitt, Brian Lopes, Chris Moeller & the S&M guys, and a number more. I grew up in this sport before it became RockStar and this is the way I did it. I want to bring it back full circle. I am putting 100% of my time and energy into this event for the next month and it will be a success for everyone!
Have a great day — Rich Bartlett
